Bloomington, Minn. — The Bethel University women's Tennis Team came out on top with a 7-2 win as they competed against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday evening at Bloomington South Lifetime Fitness. 
 
The Royals started out strong in doubles play, as sisters Maggie Riermann and Grace Riermann dominated the Bluegolds with an 8-1 win. Senior Mackenzie Novak and junior Sydney Rott followed suit with an 8-2 victory. At third doubles, sophomores Rylee Schurman and Ingrid Goldstrand also competed fiercely besting their opponents 8-4, and aiding the Royals in sweeping doubles play. 
 
The Riermanns pulled out the first pair of singles wins at one and two singles, with mutual 6-1, 6-1 victories, and Novak followed suit with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win. Goldstrand provided the team's seventh win of the night, clinching the tight match 6-2, 4-6, 10-6. The Bluegolds pulled out their sole wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, besting Rott in a tiebreaker and Schurman in close sets. 
 
"The Bluegolds came out swinging hard, but the Bethel women flawlessly matched their intensity," said Coach Drew Fernelius regarding the matchup. 
 
The Royals are set to continue MIAC play on Saturday, April 17, against St. Ben's. The match will take place in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
