BLAINE, Minn. – An action-packed matinee at Bethel University Arena saw the Bethel University women's hockey team skate to a 2-2 tie with Augsburg Monday afternoon in Blaine.
Following a hat trick performance on Saturday and being named MIAC Player of the Week,
Bri Stafne made a stellar move at center ice to get past the Augsburg defenders before lighting up the lamp with a game-tying backhanded goal with 2:58 remaining.
In the overtime period, netminder
Mallory Tidona collected seven of her 39 saves including two pad saves in the final minute of the 3-on-3 battle.
Augsburg broke the scoreless affair 7:56 into the opening period. Bethel spent a majority of the second period in the penalty box but the penalty kill was on its game forcing Augsburg to go 0-for-3.
In the meantime,
Alex Belde tied things up scoring a shorthanded goal with an assist from
Ally Halverson. Despite being outshot 11-4 in the second period, BU took a 1-1 tie into the second intermission.
The teams skated neck-in-neck in the third until Augsburg broke the 1-1 tie with a goal at the 9:22 mark. BU didn't go down easily testing the Augsburg net minder until finally got the break they needed with Stafne's breakaway goal.
The busy week continues for the Royals who travel to Saint Mary's Wednesday for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
