Bethel Narrowly Edged by Northwestern

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Trailing 7-4 heading into the seventh, the Bethel University baseball team rallied for a run in the seventh and two in the eighth before Northwestern brought in the game-winning run in the home half of the eighth taking it 8-7.

The Royals offensively were led by their 5-6 hitters in Luke Carlson and Ty Koehn. Coming off a 4-for-7 day on Sunday, Carlson stayed hot at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs. Koehn went 2-for-5 recording Bethel's only extra base hits while driving in two runs.

Bethel pushed a run across in the top of the first when Thomas Friesen scored when the UNW's shortstops throw to the plate was off the mark. The Eagles took the lead in the home half of the first plating a pair of runs.

Nick Kulseth's sacrifice fly scoring Kohen made it 2-2 in the second before Kohen tripled in the fifth scoring Carlson. Noah Wenberg drove in Koehn giving the Royals a 5-2 advantage.

UNW got ahold of reliever Zachary Haala before the Royals brought in Logan McDonald with the bases loaded. A single and a sacrifice gave UNW the lead back before a bases loaded walk capped off a five-run sixth for the Eagles.

Bethel made a late push with Koehn's RBI double in the seventh and a pair of runs in the eighth tying it up at 7-7. But Northwestern came right back with a two-out RIB single to left scoring the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run.

BU won't return to the diamond until next Monday, April 5 traveling to Carleton in MIAC play. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 2:30 p.m. Per Carleton fan policy, no spectators will be allowed.
