High Powered Offense Continues for Royals at UNW

ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the fourth and fifth time this season the Bethel University softball team powered its way to run-rule victories sweeping Northwestern Thursday evening in St. Paul.

The Royals used the long ball in game one defeating the Eagles 11-1, before taking the nightcap 10-1 behind the arm of Kayla Simacek and an offensive that muscled five extra-base hits.

At the plate, Calli Maki nearly completed a combined cycle coming up short of a lone single. Maki went 3-for-6 with two runs, three RBI.

Game 1: Bethel 11, Northwestern (Minn.) 1 // 5 innings
Bethel (7-1) wasted no time getting on the board as Amanda Gemuenden and Maki tallied back-to-back homers. The Eagles got one back in the bottom of the first scoring their leadoff single.

That would be the only run starter Halley Jones allowed as she picked up her first win of the season while striking out three and allowing four hits.

Kayla Hokanson's three-run bomb to left put the Royals up 5-1 after three.

In the sixth, BU batted around producing six runs on just three hits.

Game 2: Bethel 10, Northwestern (Minn.) 1 // 5 innings
Maki kept her hot hitting ways going driving in lead-off hitter Allie Fauth with a double to left.

Getting the start in the circle, Kayla Simacek was nearly untouchable again. The Eagles put up one unearned run and went down on strikes eight times. Simacek improved to 4-1 on the year.

A three spot in the second saw RBIs from Fauth and Gemuenden while Kayla Hokanson scored on a wild pitch.

Gumuenden brought in all three runs in the fourth with a single before getting caught in a run-down going to second. BU added three more runs in the fifth.
