ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The No. 15/16 ranked Bethel University Royals rolled to a 63-10 victory over the visiting Macalester College Scots on a beautiful fall afternoon at Royal Stadium. Bethel amassed 651 yards of total offense including 387 on the ground with six rushing touchdowns and three passing touchdowns. The Royals defense limited Macalester to just 21 yards rushing while the Scots were able to total 217 yards through the air. The Scots lone touchdown came with just 2:43 left in the fourth quarter. Bethel had 13 offensive possessions on the day, scoring touchdowns on nine of them while Macalester had 14 possessions, punting in half of them.
Leading the Royals on the ground was sophomore running back
Bryce Kunkle who ran for a career high 141 yards and a touchdown. Junior running back
Sid Boros popped a 77-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, the fourth touchdown run of 70 or more yards in his career.
Riley Gritz and quarterback
George Bolt both had second half rushing touchdowns with Gritz totaling 43 yards on just three carries while Bolt had four carries for 31 yards. Senior quarterback
Jaran Roste ran for 49 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for 255 yards and three touchdowns. A trio of freshman receivers were the leading pass catchers.
Joey Kidder had another big day with six catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Micah Niewald caught three passes for 72 yards including a 68-yard catch and run.
Gabe Ante caught two passes for 43-yards including a 32-yard touchdown on the final play of the first half. Roste was flushed from the pocket and lofted up a jump ball into the endzone and with three Macalester defenders in the area, Ante was the one to come down with the ball for the score to make it 28-3 at the half. Kunkle also had a 12-yard touchdown catch on the Royals opening possession of the game.
Defensively Bethel was led by senior cornerback
Tavian Swanson who had six tackles, five of them solo, along with a pass breakup. Freshman linebacker
Kolin Baier had a sack for a nine-yard loss and fellow freshman linebacker
Colin Heckman picked off a pass, returning it 13-yards. Junior defensive lineman
Aidan Thomas had 1.5 tackles for loss.
The win improves Bethel to 6-1 overall, 3-0 in the MIAC Skyline division, and the Royals will travel to Northfield next week to take on St. Olaf while Macalester will host Hamline looking for their first win in the MIAC as they are now 1-6 overall on the season.
