No. 15/16 Bethel Beats Macalester 63-10

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The No. 15/16 ranked Bethel University Royals rolled to a 63-10 victory over the visiting Macalester College Scots on a beautiful fall afternoon at Royal Stadium. Bethel amassed 651 yards of total offense including 387 on the ground with six rushing touchdowns and three passing touchdowns. The Royals defense limited Macalester to just 21 yards rushing while the Scots were able to total 217 yards through the air. The Scots lone touchdown came with just 2:43 left in the fourth quarter. Bethel had 13 offensive possessions on the day, scoring touchdowns on nine of them while Macalester had 14 possessions, punting in half of them.

Leading the Royals on the ground was sophomore running back Bryce Kunkle who ran for a career high 141 yards and a touchdown.  Junior running back Sid Boros popped a 77-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, the fourth touchdown run of 70 or more yards in his career. Riley Gritz and quarterback George Bolt both had second half rushing touchdowns with Gritz totaling 43 yards on just three carries while Bolt had four carries for 31 yards. Senior quarterback Jaran Roste ran for 49 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for 255 yards and three touchdowns. A trio of freshman receivers were the leading pass catchers. Gabe Ante caught two passes for 43-yards including a 32-yard touchdown on the final play of the first half. Roste was flushed from the pocket and lofted up a jump ball into the endzone and with three Macalester defenders in the area, Ante was the one to come down with the ball for the score to make it 28-3 at the half. Kunkle also had a 12-yard touchdown catch on the Royals opening possession of the game.

Defensively Bethel was led by senior cornerback Tavian Swanson who had six tackles, five of them solo, along with a pass breakup. Freshman linebacker Kolin Baier had a sack for a nine-yard loss and fellow freshman linebacker Colin Heckman picked off a pass, returning it 13-yards.
