ST. PAUL, Minn. – With six players recording kills, the No. 23-ranked Bethel University volleyball team won its fourth straight match defeating St. Catherine in three sets, 25-12, 25-20, 25-23.
Coming off a career-high night against St. Olaf,
Kirstin Cotter put down a match-high 14 kills.
Danielle Friedges was not far behind with 11 while
Allie Fauth contributed seven kills and 18 digs.
Kelsie Sealock finished with a match-high 21 digs.
For the 11th time this season, Bethel held its opponent hitting under .100 forcing the Wildcats into 15 attacking errors and a .086 hitting percentage. Bethel themselves hit .162 while recording 10 service aces for the second match in a row.
The Royals were ready from the start leading 5-0 in the opening set. Friedges tallied five kills in the set where Bethel hit .333. The Royals closed out the opening set with an impressive run scoring eight of the last nine points.
Set two played a bit closer with 10 ties and five lead changes. A kill from
Kirstin Cotter tied it up at 12-12 after BU trailed. The four-point run kept the lead with Bethel as
Allie Fauth put down the set clinching kill.
St. Kate's kept BU on its toes in the third erasing the Royals early five-point lead. The Royals erased SCU's three-point lead not once, but twice late into the set. Down 23-22, Bethel went to its top hitters as Cotter got the Royals to match point before Friedges put down the match winner.
Now 17-4 on the year and 6-1 in MIAC play, the Royals continue a four-game road stand at Augsburg Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
