ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Bethel University junior linebacker/running back
Mike Delich was named to the 2020 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, as announced by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Wednesday afternoon. Delich was one of 22 players selected from 149 nominees and one of 11 from the Divisions of NCAA FCS, DII, DIII and NAIA.
Delich is BU's 14th overall selection and eighth consecutive Good Works Team member making Bethel's total of 14 selections the fourth most all time in any division and the most among non-DI (FBS) schools.
The Apple Valley, Minn. native has put in countless hours of community service dating back to his time at Eastview High School. While at Bethel he has been a part of Special Olympics MN, Feed My Starving Children and a Vacation Bible School counselor at Bethel Baptist Church.
Most recently he has used his platform as a student-athlete serving as co-organizer for a donation drive for the communities affected by the recent rioting in Minneapolis. During the 2017-18 season, Delich connected with children and their families at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital encouraging them to chase their dreams in whatever they want to be.
Academically the 2019 First Team All-MIAC honoree has been named to the Dean's List and received Academic All-Conference honors. He is currently majoring in accounting and finance.
"With so many unexpected challenges this year, it's inspiring to see this group of talented athletes use their voices and actions to make a difference in their communities," said Pam Hollander, vice president of consumer marketing for Allstate. "Allstate believes that celebrating positive change creates vibrant and resilient communities, and recognizing acts of kindness these players demonstrate is a vital part of our protection of college football and its traditions."
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association to recognize extra efforts by players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate became the presenting sponsor starting with the 2008 season.
