The Bethel University men's tennis team took care of business this past weekend at Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The Royals extended their winning streak to three with an 8-1 win over Hastings Friday night followed by a hard fought 6-3 win over Concordia.
Doubles
Against Hastings had no trouble winning all three matches in convicing fashion.
Jason Reilly and
Erik Beckers held down the No. 1 doubles spot nicely with a convincing 8-3 victory. At No. 2 doubles
Zach Kantor and
Joey Mueller only dropped one game as they were able to put on a dominant performance and win 8-1 before
Tyler Creelman and
Jacob Lukkarila put on a show at No. 3 with an 8-0 victory.
Against Concordia, No. 1 doubles
Jason Reilly and
Erik Beckers dropped a nail bitter as they lost 8-7 (5-7). At No. 2 doubles
Zach Kantor and
Joey Mueller were able to win in convincing fashion dropping only one game on the way to an 8-1 victory. The Royals finished doubles play strong as
Tyler Creelman and
Jacob Lukkarila fought to an 8-5 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Singles
BU continued to have its way with Hastings during singles play taking five of the six matches. Sophomore Tyler Crewman put on a show at the No. 4 singles spot and was able to win with ease 6-0, 6-1. Lukkarila and Mueller also had some fantastic play, both did not drop a game to the Broncos each finishing 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No 6 singles. Beckers held down the No. 2 singles spot 6-2, 6-.
BU had some tight matches when it came to singles play but were able to pull out four wins against the Cobbers. Beckers had some drama at the No. 2 singles spot where he came away with a tight one 6-3, 7-5, 10-6. Creelman also went to three sets and picked up a huge victory at No. 4 singles winning 6-3, 6-3, 10-3. Lukkarila and Mueller only needed two sets to get wins as Lukkarila won his match 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 and Mueller took his match 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6.
