ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University men's basketball team saw its season come to an end Tuesday evening in the MIAC Playoff quarterfinals as the fourth-seeded Royals fell to a hot shooting shooting and fifth-seeded Saint Mary's, 72-59.
The Cardinals (14-12, 10-10 MIAC) came into the Robertson Center and shot 46.3 percent (25-for-54) from the field and hit nine of their 19 attempts from behind the arc. Bethel dug itself an early hole that they couldn't escape connecting on four field goals in the first half, one coming from long distance which sent them into the locker room trailing by 18.Â
It seemed like Saint Mary's had an answer on every offensive possession despite the Royals outscoring them 42-37 in the second half. A 3-pointer by
Jack Jenson at the 2:01 mark got BU within 65-53, but the Cardinals completed the upset by hitting their free throws down the stretch.Â
Chandler Wellman and
Isaiah Carver-Bagley each finished with a game-high 12 points while
Jamal Davis added 10. Seniors
Jack Jenson and
Hudson Urbanus finished with nine while
Granger Kingland added four. In a Bethel uniform, Kingland tallied 1,361 career points putting him 14th on the Royals all-time scoring list.Â
The Royals finished the year 16-10 overall and 13-7 in MIAC play. Â
