MOORHEAD, Minn. – For the second game in a row the Bethel University men's hockey team found itself on the wrong end of a one goal game heading into the final period. The Royals surrendered an empty net goal in the final two minutes to Concordia falling in the series finale 3-1.
Concordia broke the scoreless tie 6:03 into the opening period. Both teams were unsuccessful in their only power play opportunity of the period while the Cobbers held an edge on shots 19-9.
To the rescue came Jordan Stone scoring his first goal of the season with an assist from
Brandon Baker knotting it up at one apiece. The Royals were a consistent threat in the Cobbers zone but were to no avail narrowly out shooting Concordia 14-13 in the second.
The Cobbers were able to sneak one past netminder
Joe Sheppard with seven seconds left in the second for a one goal lead.
As he did Friday night, Sheppard kept Concordia off the board in the third stopping all nine shots that came his way. He ended the night with 39 saves. The Cobbers sealed the series sweep with an empty netter with 1:57 left.
Bethel (5-13-3, 4-5-3 MIAC) takes on St. Olaf next weekend opening the series at home on Friday night at 7 p.m.
