ROCHESTER, Minn. – For the seventh straight season the Bethel University men's tennis team opened its season with a win defeating Central College 8-1 Saturday evening.
Doubles
Jason Reilly returns at No. 1 doubles but with a new partner in
Erik Beckers, defeating Central 8-0.
Zach Kantor and
Joey Mueller at No. 2 doubles won 8-1 while newcomers
Luke Wyly and
Jacob Lukkarila picked up an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
Singles
The lone senior
Zach Kantor moved up from No. 2 singles last season to the No. 1 spot winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Beckers at No. 2 (6-3, 3-6, 10-7) and
Joey Mueller (4-6, 6-4, 6-10) both had to play three sets with Beckers coming out on top and Mueller falling.
Jason Reilly at No. 3 took his opening set in a tiebreaker before winning the second 6-3.
Andrew Jenson picked up his first individual singles win at No. 6 thanks to going the distance in a second set tiebreaker.
Jacob Lukkarila won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

The Royals travel to Eau Claire, Wis. on Feb. 8 where they will take on Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 9 a.m. followed by Edgewood at noon.
