MINNEAPOLIS – A pair of unanswered goals by the Bethel University men's soccer team led the Royals to a 2-1 victory over North Central University Tuesday afternoon at Elliot Park Field. The two teams were destined for overtime until a quick takeaway by Bethel led junior
Cobi Heckmann to score the game winner with just over seven minutes to play.
Now 2-0 on the season, Bethel travels to Bethany Lutheran Wednesday to take on Vikings at 7:30 p.m.
The host Rams pounded their attacking third early holding possession through the first five minutes before braking the scoreless tie in the 7th minute scoring on their only shot of the half. That lead didn't last long as along came
Connor Nelson who scored his second goal of the season, in as many games, tying up the match at one a piece in the 12th minute. Freshman
Zach Caouette collected his first collegiate assist executing a give and go with Nelson.
Bethel – who outshot the Rams 20-3 in the match- had a tough time cracking the NCU goalkeeper in the second half. It wasn't until the ninth look of the half that Heckmann was able to net the game winner in the 83rd minute sealing the victory for the Royals.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Colin Hupert was forced to make one save in net with the Rams only putting two shots on frame.
