Royals Drop MIAC Opener to Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team dropped its MIAC opener 3-0 to Carleton Wednesday afternoon at Bell Field. The host Knights only needed one to win but used a pair of second half goals for insurance.

Bethel falls to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in MIAC play. The Royals are back in action Saturday hosting Concordia College at Ona Orth Athletic Complex. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.

Carleton put the pressure on BU goalie Ben Wright early firing off a handful of shots off frame in the opening 10 minutes. The Knights broke through on the scoreboard in the 17th minute as a pass from the left side made its way into the center of the box before being tapped in. Despite being outshot 18-1 in the first 45 minutes the Royals went into the break trailing by one.

In the second half, Carleton picked up right where they left off extending its lead to 2-0 on a goal in the 51st minute off a scrum in the box following a corner kick. The BU defense continued to be tested by a strong Knights attack who pushed their lead to three goals in the 61st minute.

Wright finished the game with five saves while Bethel did not have a shot on goal.
