Surprise Announcement at Bethel Football Practice |
WCCO TV spot on Munoz
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Bethel University senior offensive lineman
Danny Munoz has been named to the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
®. Munoz was chosen from a list of 137 nominees by an esteemed panel of judgesand is one of just 11 team members from the divisions of the NCAA FCS, DII, DIII and the NAIA. The annual award is given to college football players for the impact they make off the field and their dedication to community service. To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
®, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing. Munoz becomes Bethel's 13
th overall selection and seventh consecutive Good Works Team
®, member. Bethel's total of 13 selections is now the fourth most all time in any division and tied for the most among non-DI (FBS) schools.
Munoz has an extensive history of dedicating his time to community service, dating back to his days at Monticello High School. Some of the highlights during his time at Bethel include being a part of the "Bethel Buddies" program which brings local elementary students to Bethel as an afterschool option. The students are partnered up with Bethel students who spend time developing relationships, helping with homework, eating dinner, and other activities. During spring break of 2018, Munoz went on a mission trip to Costa Rica to serve areas of the country high in poverty. During the winter and spring months, Munoz has been a leader in rounding up fellow Bethel football teammates to serve at Feed My Starving Children on Saturday mornings. This past spring, Munoz was a volunteer with "Night to Shine Prom" that was put on at Westbridge Community Church in St. Michael, Minnesota. As a volunteer Munoz accompanied a special needs guest through a typical prom experience.
The "Night to Shine" program is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.
"I've had the privilege of not only being a member of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, but also witnessing firsthand how these young men are able to inspire and ultimately change the lives of those around them," said Tim Tebow, voting panel member and a two-time national champion and former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member. "Each year, I'm impressed by the way that Allstate and the AFCA share the important stories of these players' 'good works,' and I'm honored to be part of such a special program that has become a source of inspiration in the college football community."
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be invited to the 2020 Allstate
® Sugar Bowl
® and will join Tebow and Allstate volunteers to give back to New Orleans through a special community service project. Allstate will recognize the team during the halftime show on January 1, 2020.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was selected by an esteemed voting panel, which includes Tebow, Herbstreit and O'Donnell, along with: Zaid Abdul-Aleem (Duke, 1994 team); Matt Stinchcomb (Georgia, 1997, 1998 teams); Brian Brenberg (St. Thomas, 2001 team); Mike Proman (Amherst, 2002 team); Wes Counts (Middle Tennessee State, 1999 team); media members Blair Kerkhoff (Kansas City Star), and Paul Myerberg (USA TODAY); Frank Solich, 2019 AFCA President and Ohio University Head Coach; and Joe Taylor, 2001 AFCA President and athletic director at Virginia Union University.
