ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's tennis team is set to make its fourth straight and fifth overall appearance in the MIAC Playoffs. The Royals earned the No. 3 seed after posting a program-best 8-2 record in league play.
Earning its highest playoff seed in program history, Bethel is set to host sixth-seeded St. Olaf on Wednesday, May 1 at Ona Orth Athletic Complex beginning at 3:30 p.m. The second quarterfinal set to take place is between No. 5 seed Saint Mary's and No. 4-seeded St. Thomas. Carleton earned the top seed and will take on the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals while second-seeded Gustavus Adolphus takes on the second lowest remaining seed.
Currently at 18-4 overall, the Royals are one win away from matching the program's single-season record which the Royals recorded in the 2016 and 2017 season going 19-5 in each of them.
BU is 2-4 all-time in the MIAC playoffs with one of those wins coming in last year's quarterfinals where the fourth-seeded Royals defeated Macalester 7-2 before falling to Gustavus in the semis 5-0. The Royals also made an appearance in the semifinals during the 2017 tournament where it fell 9-0 to top-seed Carelton after defeating St. Catherine 5-4 in the opening round.
The two teams met earlier in the season at the Baseline Tennis Center where Bethel defeated St. Olaf 9-0. The Royals began the all-time series 0-14 before recording its current three game winning streak against the Oles.
