ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – With a combined 25 hits and 19 runs the Bethel University softball team picked up a sweep of Augsburg Wednesday afternoon. A six-run fifth inning gave the Royals the opener 9-3 before taking the night cap 10-4.
Sophomores
Allie Fauth and
Amanda Gemuenden led the Royals at the plate going a combined 8-for-16 while driving in four runs. Gemuenden led BU with three RBI while also notching a triple.
Hannah Schmidt picked up the win in game one surrendering one earned run in the complete game effort. The junior right-hander also struck out a career-high 10 batters and allowed just one walk.
Bethel improved to 17-3 on the year and hits the .500 mark in MIAC play at 2-2. The Royals close out their six game homestand Saturday against Concordia at Ona Orth Athletic Complex. Game one of the doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
Game 1: Bethel 9, Augsburg 3
Maddie Fauth launched her second home run of the year to tie things up at 3-3 after four innings of play. Augsburg used a three-run second to take an early lead before Gemuenden's two-out single to score
Alexa Hanowski in the bottom half of the inning sparked the Royal comeback.
Gemuenden's triple of the right field fence to score a pair sparked the six-run fifth inning. Hanowski showed two-out production scoring
Maddie Fauth and Schmidt with a double to straight away center to make it nine unaswered for the Royals
Augsburg saw just one base runner through its final four at bats. Schmidt (7-1) kept the Auggies off the board by striking out five of the last 13 she faced.
Game 2: Bethel 10, Augsburg 4
A drop in temperature sure didn't cool off the Bethel bats in game two. After allowing a run in the top of the opening frame, Bethel took advantage of an Augsburg error and wild pitch before
Kayla Hokanson sent an RBI single through the left side to make it 3-1.
Freshman right-hander
Calli Maki (7-1) froced zeros on the board through her next three innings of work. The Cokato, Minn. native in four innings of work gave up three hits, three walks and struck out six.
The offensive continued to help the strong defense plating seven runs in the fourth inning.

Kayla Hokanson and
Emily Eaton all recorded RBI singles during the stretch. The inning saw four BU hits, three Auggie errors and 11 Royals who came to the plate.
Augsburg put up a crooked number in the fifth and one in the seventh on reliever
Ellie Rogers. Rogers thought battled through to limit the damage and pick up the save giving up three hits and striking out one.
