2019 Schedule
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Head Coach
Gretchen Hunt and the Bethel University volleyball team are excited to announce their 2019 schedule, which highlights the annual Bethel Invitational, eight home games and seven matches against 2018 NCAA Tournament teams.
"Whenever I see the schedule come together, it always makes me so excited for the season to begin," said Hunt. "We just have about four months to wait! Opening weekend will be one to circle on your calendar, as we again play the "prime time" match at the Kathryne Pals Invitational at the University of Northwestern."
Bethel will play a total of 27 regular season matches this season. In that span, the Royals will face 11 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents, 15 non-conference opponents and participate in three non-conference tournaments.
The Royals open the 2019 campaign at the Kathryne Pals Legacy Invitational hosted by the University of Northwestern Aug. 30-31. BU takes on Coe College Aug. 30 to open up the season and then will play the host Eagles that same night.
"The crowd was electric last year, with both UNW and Bethel students packing the gym for an epic 5-setter the first day of the season. I am sure both of our teams would be eager to re-create that atmosphere, as those kinds of nights are the ones you always remember, win or lose."
After traveling to Stevens Point, Wis., where the Royals will take on Carthage College and Wisconsin-Stevens Point, BU heads to Minnesota-Morris to take on the UMAC Tournament champions on Sept. 10.
Bethel returns to the Robertson Center, where it was 10-3 last season, to host the annual Bethel Invitational Sept. 13-14. During the two day event, BU is set to take on University of Wisconsin-Stout, St. Norbert College and Minnesota-Morris in an invitational that highlights teams from five different conferences.
The Royals open up Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 18 hosting the College of Saint Benedict at 7 p.m. BU then hits the road with four neutral site matches at the Central Tournament in Pella, Iowa.
From there the Royals will turn its attention to MIAC play with the exception of one non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Bethel is set to host American Rivers Conference favorite Wartburg in a critical regional ranking match.
Along with CSB, home MIAC opponents in 2019 include Saint Mary's (Homecoming weekend), St. Olaf and Augsburg. MIAC opponents on the road include Hamline, Carleton, Macalester, St. Thomas, Gustavus Adolphus, Concordia and St. Catherine where the Royals close out the regular season on Nov. 2.
