Royals Pick Up Road Sweep at Concordia

FARGO, N.D. – The Bethel University tennis program picked up a sweep over Concordia College Sunday evening in Fargo, N.D. The No. 40 BU women's team picked up their fourth straight win and eight shutout of the year improving to 13-2 overall and 3-0 in MIAC play with a 9-0 victory. The Royals men's squad snapped a five-match losing streak with a 6-3 win improving to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in MIAC play.

Women: #40 Bethel 9, Concordia 0
The Royals took Sunday's contest in straight sets. The top doubles duo in the central region, Grace Riermann and Maggie Riermann, kicked off doubles play with an 8-1 victory before both second and third doubles won by a score of 8-2.

In singles play, Mackenzie Novak and Sydeny Rott both won their respective matches in shutout fashion 6-0, 6-0. Regionally ranked Grace Riermann took the top singles match 6-2, 6-2 while 19th-ranked Maggie Riermann won 6-1, 6-0.

The Royals continue MIAC play Saturday at the College of Saint Benedict starting at 4 p.m.

Men: Bethel 6, Concordia 3
The Royals trailed 2-1 going into singles play before Bethel took five of the six singles matches to take the win.

Nick Knudsen and Joey Muller notched BU's only victory in doubles play, 8-4.

Hunter Fernelius picked up his third straight win in singles play battling to a 6-4, 6-3 decision. The Royals went out to take the final four singles matches as Erik Beckers (6-4, 6-2), Jason Reilly (6-2, 6-3), Nick Knudsen (6-3, 6-3) Joey Mueller (6-1, 6-2) all won in straight sets.

Up next for BU is a road trip to Northfield where they will take on Carleton at 4:30 p.m. in a rescheduled match from Feb. 23. The Royals then head to Collegeville Saturday to take on Saint John's University at 1 p.m.
