SARTELL, Minn. -Â The Bethel University men's tennis team found itself on the wrong end of a four and half hour marathon match with Saint John's Saturday evening. In a match that saw four singles match head to a third set tiebreaker, the Johnnies outlasted the Royals to take it 6-3.Â
Now 8-8 on the season and 3-2 in MIAC play, the Royals will take on Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. Tuesday, April 9 at 4:30 p.m.
The Royals fell behind 2-1 after doubles play with
Nick Knudsen and
Joey Mueller giving BU the only doubles point with a an 8-4 win at No. 3.Â
Hunter Fernelius was the first to battle to a tiebreaker taking the top singles match 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.
Jason Reilly at No. 4 singles won in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) after taking the opening set via a tiebreaker 7-5. SJU pulled away to take the match with super tie breaker wins at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles.Â
