ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's basketball team took care of business at home earning a 74-56 win over Concordia inside the Robertson Center Saturday afternoon.
The Royals shot 32-of-67 (47.8 percent) from the field and extended their winning streak to eight games. Bethel outscored the Cobbers 52-20 on points in the paint to improve to 16-7 on the season and 13-5 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
There was no lack of offensive from the Royals as junior
Jack Jenson led the charge with 15 points. Senior
Derek Magnuson helped out with 11 points which included a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
Granger Kingland reached the double-digit mark in the scoring column with 10 points to go along with six rebounds. Senior
Matt Ambriz, junior
Hudson Urbanus and sophomore
Chandler Wellman all added eight points each.
The Royals wasted little time in taking command of Saturday's regular season home finale. The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes before Bethel went on a 14-4 run to take the lead for good, 19-8, with 13:54 remaining in the first half. The Royals hit three 3-pointers during the stretch, two of which came from Ambriz, to set the tone the rest of the way. Concordia chipped away to pull within six at the 8:45 mark. Bethel went inside over the final five minutes to stretch its margin to 44-31. The Royals shot 18-of-31 (58.1 percent) from the field while taking care of the basketball committing just five turnovers in the first 20 minutes of action.
BU added to its lead in the second half, taking its largest lead of the night at 68-41 on a jumper by
Robbie Whitney at the 6:31 mark. The Royals bench dominated the second half of play outscoring Concordia's bench 20-9. BU went on to out rebound the Cobbers 36-26.
