Hot Shooting Sends Royals Past St. Olaf, 73-64

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Live and die by the three was the Royal motto Monday evening as they picked up a 73-64 road victory at St. Olaf College.

Bethel went 14-of-31 (45.2 percent) from 3-point range to extended its winning streak to six games while improving to 14-7 on the year and 11-5 in MIAC play. Bethel wraps up the short two game road trip Wednesday at Saint Mary's before returning to the Robertson Center Saturday for its final home game of the regular season against Concordia.

Juniors Hudson Urbanus and Granger Kingland both led the way with 18 points each. Kingland completed the double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds while Urbanus connected on four of his five 3-point attempts. Senior Tyler Barker chipped in 12 points along with a game-high five assists.

The Royals ended the same way they started. Hot from 3-point range.

With 3:35 remaining Jack Jenson hit his second three of the game to give the Royals a 63-62 lead. After a transition bucket from Derek Magnuson, Matt Ambriz put the nail in the coffin knocking down a walk in three with just over two minutes to go to give the Royals a six point lead. BU closed out the game hitting four of its last five 3-point attempts, all coming after a near five and a half minute scoring drought.

St. Olaf (11-10, 10-6 MIAC) came out of the break strong as Austin Korba rattled off seven of its first nine second half points. The Oles battled to grab their largest lead of the game at 51-47 with 13:26 remaining until Kingland took over for the Royals. Five straight by Kingland tied things up at 51 before the teams traded baskets until the four minute mark of the second half where it was all Bethel from there.

Things could not have started any better for the Royals who opened up the game hitting five of their first six attempts, all which came behind the arc. Kingland opened the scoring by hitting treys on back-to-back possessions. It took two St. Olaf timeouts to cool down the red hot offense, but the cold streak did not last long. Over the next two minutes, Bethel went on a 10-2 run to grab its largest lead of the game at 33-17. The Oles found their scoring drive in the final eight minutes as they closed the half on a 20-8. Despite going on a 3:24 scoring drought to close out the first 20 minutes, the Royals took a 39-35 lead into the break.
