Royals Set to Host MIAC Playoff Quarterfinal Doubleheader

The Bethel University men's and women's basketball teams have earned the right to host a quarterfinal matchup in the MIAC Playoffs. Both program's earned the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and will host the No. 6 seed from their respective brackets Tuesday, Feb. 19 inside the Robertson Center. The women are scheduled to tipoff at 5 p.m. with the men will follow at 8 p.m.

Admission to all MIAC Playoff games are $10 for Adults and $2 for students while children 5 & under are free. Bethel University athletics will be offering a special discount to Bethel University students (with valid ID) for $1 admission (per game) on Tuesday night. Per MIAC policy, admission prices are per game. To accommodate this policy, the Robertson Center Gym will be cleared following the women's contest and those who have purchased admission for the men's game will be allowed to enter once the gym doors have been reopened.

The Bethel women's basketball team makes its sixth consecutive playoff appearance and eighth in the last nine years. The Royals will host No. 6 Saint Mary's Cardinals for the second straight season in the MIAC quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday evening. The Royals defeated Saint Mary's back on February 86-68 inside the Robertson Center during the team's only meeting during the regular season, but it was the Cardinals who took last year's MIAC Quarterfinal matchup at home 58-54.  In Arden Hills the Royals are 15-10 all-time against the Cardinals and have won seven of the last eight series meetings inside the Robertson Center. With a win the Royals will go on to take on No. 2 seed Augsburg Thursday night in Minneapolis. Top seeded Saint Thomas will host the lowest remaining seed following the opening round.The second quarterfinal to take place Tuesday night will be between No. 4 seed Saint Benedict and No. 5 seed Gustavus. The championship game is set for Saturday at the highest remaining seed with a 3 p.m. tipoff. More information can be found at the tournament homepage by clicking here.

The Royals men's basketball team enter the playoffs on a program-best 10 game winning streak against four-year institutions. The Royals will host No. 5 Gustavus Adolphus in a rematch one week after the team's regular season series final that came down to the wire but saw Bethel come out on top 84-81. Tip-off for Tuesday's game will take place at 8 p.m. following the women's contest. Bethel took the series meeting at home against the Gusties on Jan. 21 83-64. The Royals trail the all-time series 34-56 but have won the series last six meetings. In Arden Hills they are 17-25 all-time against GAC, but are on a five game winning streak at home versus the Gusties. With a win, the Royals would go on to take on No. 2 Saint John's in Collegeville, Minn. Thursday night at 7 p.m. The second quarterfinal to be played Tuesday night will be between No. 4 Augsburg and No. 5 St. Olaf. No. 1 St. Thomas will host the lowest remaining seed out of the opening round Thursday evening in St. Pual.
