Royals Go the Distance in Win at Hamline, 89-63.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University men's basketball team took advantage of long distance shooting Saturday afternoon to defeat Hamline 89-63 inside Hutton Arena. Bethel ends the regular season on a 10-game winning streak.

Bethel recorded its third-best shooting performance on the season from long range where they finished 53.6 percent (15-of-28). The win improves Bethel to 18-7 on the year as they finish with a 15-5 mark in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. Bethel turns its attention to the MIAC Playoffs where they will host the No. 6 seed Gustavus Adolphus on Tuesday at 8 p.m. inside the Robertson Center.

All five starters found the scoring column as senior Matt Ambriz led the way with 22 points going 6-of-10 from long distance. Juniors Jack Jenson and Granger Kingland each added 18 points respectively with Jenson grabbing seven boards and Kingland reeling in a game-high eight rebounds. Senior Derek Magnuson chipped in 14 points and six rebounds while Tyler Barker rounded out the starters with two points and six assists.

As per usual, the Royals started out hot from 3-point range where they hit four of their first six attempts to jump out to a 17-7 lead through the game's opening five minutes. BU handled the ball well committing just four turnovers in the first half. The defense was just as strong as it limited Hamline to shoot 28.6 percent (8-of-28) from the field through the first 20 minutes.

Ambriz knocked down is fourth 3-pointer of the game to open up the Royal lead to 37-20 with 3:38 left in the first. Bethel kept the Pipers off the scoreboard for the final 6:12 of the half to take a 41-20 lead into the locker room.

After shooting 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from 3-point range in the first half, nothing was stopping the Royals from behind the arc. Bethel picked up right where they left off as Kingland hit from long range in the opening minutes of the second half. Kinglandhit again at the 7:07 mark to give the Royals their largest lead of the game at 76-50. Bethel closed out the game on a 7-2 run as they finished shooting 50.8 percent from the field (33-of-65) while committing a minimal seven turnovers.
