ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior forward
Isaiah Carver-Bagley poured in a career-high 21 points off the bench Saturday afternoon in the 79-57 victory for the Bethel University men's basketball team at Macalester.
Outscoring the Macalester bench 29-0 and shooting 50.8 percent (31-of-61) from the field, the Royals improve to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in the MIAC. BU steps away from conference play before the Christmas break traveling to Wisconsin-Stevens Point Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip.
Carver-Bagley was 8-of-9 from the field and knocked down a pair of threes in 23 minutes of action. Senior guard
Granger Kingland tallied his first double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard
Jamal Davis had another solid offensive effort with 12 points and seven assists.
Bethel got out to a seven point lead in the first four minutes before a 7-0 run by the Scots evened up things at 13-13 with 12:51 to play in the opening half. Things stayed within two possessions until
Jake Van Wyk's layup at the 8:46 mark made it 30-23 Bethel. Carver-Bagley went perfect from the floor in the first connecting on a layup in the final 20 seconds sending the Royals to the break with a 41-30 advantage.
Carver-Bagley kept the hot hand with 12 second half points that were well spread out. A 3-pointer by Macalester at the 12:55 mark cut the Bethel lead to 50-45. The Royals rode the wave responding with a 3-pointer from
Hudson Urbanus and a layup from
Jack Jenson forcing a timeout from the Scots.
It was all Bethel from that point expanding on its lead with each possession.
Isaiah Rollins gave BU its largest lead at 52-79 scoring on a jumper in the lane with under 90 seconds remaining.
