Royals Halted by No. 10 UW-Platteville, 65-54

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped in a 65-54 loss to No. 10 Wisconsin-Platteville Saturday afternoon inside the Robertson Center.

The non-conference season finale sends the Royals into the holiday break with a 6-3 record. BU returns to the hardwood Saturday, Jan. 4 hosting Saint Mary's in MIAC play. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Junior forward Isaiah Carver-Bagley caught fire in the second half where he scored 15 of his game-high 21 points which also matched a career high. Senior guard Jack Jenson wasn't far behind him hitting five of his seven makes in the final 20 minutes finishing with 17 points. Senior Granger Kingland brought in a game-high 12 rebounds while senior Hudson Urbanus dished out three assists.

Urbanus scored Bethel's first seven points with neither team holding a two-possession lead until the 11:29 mark in the first. A layup by Jenson making it 12-8 would be Bethel's last basket for a near nine minute stretch in which the Pionners went on a 20-0 run. Oddly enough it was Jenson breaking the drought with a jumper in the paint. Carver-Bagley connected on a 3-point play just before the break cutting Bethel's deficit to 30-17.

The Royals trailed by double digits until Carver-Bagley got a floater to go in pulling BU within 35-26 at the 15:05 mark in the second. UWP scored on its next three possessions matching its largest lead with a 16-point margin.

Jenson got the Royals back within nine on two separate occasions, once from the charity stripe and the other on a jumper in the paint with under six minutes to go. Unfortunately, Bethel got no closer than that thanks to the Pioneers shooting 53.8 (14-of-26) from the field in the second half.
