The Bethel University women's tennis team is moving on to the semifinal round for the second consecutive season after defeating Macalester College, 7-2, in Arden Hills on Tuesday. The Royals claimed two of three points in doubles play and five of six in singles to secure a matchup with top-seeded Gustavus at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The regionally-ranked tandem of Maggie Riermann and Mattie Kidder scored an 8-6 victory for the Royals at No. 1 doubles, while Mackenzie Novak and Jill Weinzettel posted an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. The team of Maegan O'Herin and Emma Baker claimed a point at No. 3 doubles for Macalester, a program making its first MIAC Playoff appearance since 2008. Bethel earned victories at the top five singles spots in straight sets.
"I'm really proud of the effort they put in—not only today—but all season," Head Coach Drew Fernelius said. "We're hoping our fantastic season can continue on Thursday when we take on Gustavus."
