Bethel University women's tennis, the No. 18 ranked team in the region, earned an 8-1 victory Tuesday night over Macalester College to improve the teams conference record to 4-1 on the season. The Royals (10-3, 4-1 MIAC) swept doubles and went 5-1 in singles matches to take home the victory over the Scots (3-8, 2-3 MIAC).
Maggie Riermann and
Mattie Kidder started off the match for BU with an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match.
Mackenzie Novak and
Jill Weinzettel followed up with an 8-3 victory, while No. 3 doubles went to
Sami Hindt and
Mattie Lubben by a score of 8-2. Singles play saw Riermann, Novak and Hindt all take 6-1, 6-0 wins in their respective matches. Weinzettel also earned a straight set victory at No. 4 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1. To round out the scoring for BU,
Meghan Schuler pulled out a three-set win at No. 6 singles with a final of 7-5, 1-6, (10-8).
No rest for the Royals as the team is back in action with their home opener at Ona Orth Wednesday, April 11. The Royals will be hosting the University of Northwestern with the match set for 3:30 p.m. The Eagles enter the matchup with a 5-7 record, having lost three of their last four.
