Bethel Breaks MIAC 3-Point Record in Win over Macalester

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's men's basketball team earned a dominant 103-59 win over Macalester College Wednesday night. The Royals (18-6, 13-6 MIAC) handled the Scots (3-21, 2-17 MIAC) on both offense and defense as they shot 60.0 percent and held MAC to 33.8 percent. BU's strong production on offensive was a result of 23 3-pointers made, breaking the previous MIAC record for 3-pointers made in a single game (previously 20).

The Royals led coast-to-coast, as BU opened the game with—you guessed it—a three ball from Granger Kingland and held the lead the rest of the way. Bethel ended the first half on a 36-13 run to give them a 24-point lead going into the break. The Royals showed no signs of stopping in the second half as they started the second frame on a 16-2 run. With 0:28 remaining Isaiah Rollins hit a three to give Bethel a 44-point lead, their largest of the game.

Sophomore guard Granger Kingland led the Royals with 21 points, six rebounds, and five assists in 25 minutes. All of Kingland's points came off of three pointers as he went 7-10 from deep. Matt Ambriz put up 14 points on 4-5 from three while Riley Dearring had 13 points, three assists, and two steals. Jack Jenson tallied 12 points on 4-6 shooting. Noah Whalen came off the bench and put up 10 points in just 11 minutes.

The Royals finished with 13 players in the scoring column and five in double figures. They forced 17 turnovers and scored 26 points off those TO's. Bethel's bench had a strong performance outscoring MAC 39-30. The team had 11 steals and four blocks on the night.

Bethel's final regular season matchup is Saturday against Carleton College at 1 p.m. in the Robertson Center Gym. The Royals, who are in a fight with the Knights and others for the No. 3 seed in the 2018 MIAC Playoffs, will be celebrating senior day prior to the weekend matinee. A win over Carleton would guarantee BU the No. 3 seed, however, a loss could put the Royals anywhere from No. 3 to No. 6.
