BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel University women's hockey team entered Friday night's matchup with No. 8 ranked St. Thomas having won three of their last four games and averaging 4.25 goals per game in that stretch but the Tommies kept the Royals off the scoreboard in a 2-0 UST victory. The Tommies scored both of the games goals in the second period and outshot Bethel 27-19. The 17 shots is the lowest for the Royals since November 10th against Augsburg and the second lowest total for the season. Bethel averaged over 42 shots per game in the previous four contests.
Michelle Klimstra made 27 saves in net for Bethel. Both Tommie goals came within two-and-a-half minutes of each other in the second period. Bethel was 0-for-3 on the power play while UST was just 0-for-1.
The Royals fall to 6-9-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the MIAC with the loss while UST improved to 10-3-3 and 6-1-2 in the MIAC. The two teams will finish the series Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. faceoff at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.
