ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's men's basketball team completed quite an impressive week, as Saturday's 72-62 win over Gustavus Adolphus College marked the team's third-straight triumph since Monday. The Royals (11-3, 6-3 MIAC) shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 47.8 percent from downtown en route to a 10-point victory over the Gusties (9-6, 7-3 MIAC).
Â
BU jumped out to a commanding lead thanks to a 5-of-5 effort from outside the arc to start the game.
Riley Dearring's fast-break lay-up with 11:57 left in the half gave the Royals a 27-9 advantage, which proved to be their largest lead of the weekend matinee. GAC finished the first half on a 17-10 run, which trimmed Bethel's lead to 11 going into the intermission.Â
Â
The Royals held a double-digit lead for the majority of the second half until Gustavus rattled off a 9-2 run that shrunk BU's margin to five with 6:03 remaining. A quick 8-0 answer for Bethel over the next two minutes proved to be the clincher, as BU led by double digits the rest of the way.
Â
Granger Kingland recorded a game-high 21 points, six rebounds, three steals, and two assists, while
Matt Ambriz finished right behind with 19 points, two boards, and two dimes.
Jack Jenson contributed 13 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two assists, while
Riley Dearring added nine points, four assists, and three boards.
Â
Not only did Bethel's offense shoot exceptionally well from the floor and long range, but they also played terrific defense. Gustavus was held to 39.0 percent shooting, including a 4-of-23 mark (17.4) from outside the arc.
Â
BU's hefty schedule continues Wednesday evening, when the Royals meet St. Thomas in St. Paul for a MIAC clash scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
