Royals Fall to Vikings 1-0 in Season Opener
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University women's soccer team kicked off their 2017 season Friday afternoon at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex but fell to the visiting Augustana College Vikings by a 1-0 score. The game was a defensive battle with just ten shots total between the two teams and the lone goal coming in the 72nd minute on a header by Augustana's Sammi Farkos.
The Royals outshot Augustana 2-1 in the first half but the Vikings came out and earned an edge in the second half with a 5-2 shot total and 5-1 advantage on corner kicks in the second half. Bethel was whistled for 10 fouls and a yellow card to just six fouls on the Vikings.
The Royals started off their very successful 2016 campaign with the same result as 2017, a 1-0 loss to Augustana. Bethel will look to get on the winning side when they travel to Iowa Wesleyan College for a Noon game on Sunday, September 3
