Five Royals Honored in End of Season MIAC Awards

MIAC RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2017 women's tennis awards Thursday and among the recipients were five from the Bethel University squad. Earning All-MIAC accolades in both singles and doubles play was Mattie Kidder and Sydney Parkinson, while Sami Hindt was selected to the All-Conference singles team and Jill Weinzettel was honored to the All-Conference doubles team. Mattie Lubben was also recognized on the MIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Mattie Kidder finished the regular season 17-4 in singles play with an 8-3 mark against MIAC foes. Kidder has now won eight of her last 10 matches following Wednesday's memorable win at No. 1 singles. Her 17-4 record was comprised of an 11-4 mark at No. 1 singles and a perfect 7-0 record at No. 2 singles.  Kidder also finished 15-7 in doubles play, which includes a 6-5 record against conference opponents.

Sydney Parkinson completed her regular season with a 13-3 record overall and an 8-1 record in league play. Parkinson was 6-2 at No. 1 singles and 8-1 at No. 2 singles. Similar to Kidder, Parkinson is 9-1 in her last 10 matches with seven straight wins. Parkinson is also 10-5 in doubles play with an incredible 7-2 record at No. 1 doubles with Jill Weinzettel.

Sami Hindt's exceptional junior campaign has led to a 19-3 record in singles play, which includes an 8-3 mark against MIAC opponents. Hindt, who 5-2 at No. 3 singles and 14-1 at No. 4 singles, has won her last 14 matches.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the 11th annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's tennis. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Mattie Lubben was selected to represent BU on this prestigious list.

The MIAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Singles and Doubles teams were determined using a point system for conference wins at each position, with the top 18 recognized for both singles and doubles including ties. In all, there were 19 players recognized on the singles all-conference team and 21 on the doubles all-conference team in 2017.
