FRIDLEY, Minn. — The Bethel women earned a victory in their second of back-to-back matches this weekend. After defeating Saint Benedict on Saturday, the Royals used that momentum to cruise to an 8-1 victory against the Pipers of Hamline University. After capturing a win in all three doubles matches, BU breezed through singles, winning five of the six matches.
Mattie Kidder and
Sydney Parkinson got the Royals started by winning 8-3 in No. 1 doubles. No. 2 doubles pair
Sami Hindt and
Mattie Lubben followed in similar fashion winning 8-1.
Jill Weinzettel and
Meghan Schuler also competed to a 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Singles followed with the Royals winning handedly at No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 singles.
Mattie Kidder won both of her sets 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while
Sydney Parkinson won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Jill Weinzettel followed at No. 3 singles winning 6-2, 6-1.
Sami Hindt enjoyed success at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Meghan Schuler capped off the night for the Royals winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. The only loss of the night came at No. 5 singles where
Mattie Lubben fell in heartbreaking fashion 7-5, 5-7 (9-11) in a third set tiebreaker.
"I'm just really proud of the effort we gave tonight," Coach Fernelius said. "It was a good convincing win."
The Royals will enjoy a week off before jumping back into play against Macalester College on April 18 at 4 p.m. The meet will be held at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
