Women's Tennis Picks Up 9-0 Win at Saint Benedict

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — The Bethel women traveled to St. Joseph this morning to capture a 9-0 sweep against the Bennies of Saint Benedict.  This win improves the Royals overall record to 14-4 and their conference record to 3-3.  This record puts them firmly in fifth place in the MIAC.

While the Royals breezed through doubles, singles proved to be a tougher assignment.  All three doubles pairs won their matches 8-2.  The competition stiffened in singles.  At No. 1 singles, junior Mattie Kidder won in a third set tiebreaker 10-5.  Tensions loosened briefly as Sydney Parkinson handle business at No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0.

No. 3 singles was competitive as Jill Weinzettel rallied after losing the first set to win in a third set tiebreaker 13-11.  The Royals cruised through the rest of the matches with Sami Hindt winning 6-0, 6-2 in No. 4 singles.  Senior Anna Browning won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 singles, while Meghan Schuler won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

The Royals will look to continue with their success Sunday, April 9 when they take on Hamline University at Lifetime Fitness in Fridley at 5 p.m.
