WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. — The Bethel University women's tennis team came out in competitive fashion, defeating Macalester College this afternoon by a score of 6-3. Sweeping all three doubles matches once again proved to be a difference maker for the Royals as it started the day off on a winning note. From there, they were able to seal the deal winning three of the six singles matches.
No. 1 and 3 doubles got off to quick starts winning 8-3 and 8-1 respectively. The No. 2 doubles pair of
Mattie Kidder and
Anna Browning came from behind to win 8-6 match, sending the Royals into singles with a 3-0 lead.
From there No. 1 and No. 2 singles players
Mattie Kidder and
Sydney Parkinson made quick work of their matches winning 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively, to seal the deal for BU.
Sami Hindt followed suit, winning her match at No. 4 singles by scores of 6-3, 6-1 to put Bethel up 6-0. Unfortunately, the Royals were unable to come up with wins in the other three matches.
Jill Weinzettel came up just short at No. 3 singles as she lost in a third set tiebreaker 4-6, 6-1, 2-10.
Meghan Schuler also fell short in No. 5 singles losing 4-6, 6-1, 5-10.
The Royals will look to get some revenge in their next match is this Friday as they travel to Northfield to take on St. Olaf College, who eliminated the Royals from the playoffs just last season. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
