Royals Can't Complete Series Sweep in 5-3 Loss to Oles

BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel University Men's Hockey team was defeated by the St. Olaf College Oles 5-3 Saturday night at Bethel University Arena. There was certainly no shortage of scoring throughout the contest as the back and forth affair saw the Royals on the short end. Much like last night's game, the Royals got on the board first thanks to a power play goal by Peter Barral with the assists going to Johan Kling and George Spichal just 2:13 into the game. That would be the only tally on the board going into the locker room after the first period. It would be the Oles though who would strike back scoring two goals to take the lead before Justin Bonanno would get the equalizer for the Royals heading into the final twenty minutes of play. The third period would see the Oles score two goals once again to take a two-goal lead. With the Royals fighting to get their first sweep of the year, it was Dylan Webster who scored on a feed from Kurtis Redding to bring the game within a goal with 3:30 to play. With Royals Goalie Joe Sheppard pulled, the Royals continued to swarm the Oles net but instead gave up an empty net goal, securing a split for the Oles.

The loss for the Royals is a tough one, still looking for their first sweep of the year. Their record falls to 2-17-2 on the year and 1-9-2 in conference play. With four games left in the season, the Royals host the Golden Gusties from Gustavus Adolphus College next Friday night back at Bethel University Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm.
