OWATONNA, Minn.-- Bethel University women's tennis had an impressive outing Saturday, sweeping both Northwestern College (Iowa) and Bethany Lutheran College by scores of 9-0 in both matches. They started by sweeping the doubles matches against Northwestern, which led to an easy 9-0 win. The Royals then defeated Bethany Lutheran, also by a score of 9-0.
No.1 doubles pair
Sydney Parkinson and
Jill Weinzettel started the day off by winning their match 8-4. The No. 2 doubles pair of
Sami Hindt and
Mattie Kidder shutout Northwestern, winning 8-0. The Royals breezed through their singles games with No. 4 singles Sami Hidnt winning both sets 6-0. No. 5 singles player
Mattie Lubben handled her first set, winning 6-3, then pulled out a close second set 7-5. After sweeping the doubles against Bethany Lutheran, the Royals kept rolling in singles with their No.2, No.3 and No.4 players all shutting out their opponents with scores of 6-0.
Meghan Schuler at No. 5 singles had an impressive 6-1 and 6-2 victory. No. 6 singles,
Rachel Knutson, also held her own defeating her opponent 6-3 and 6-1.
The wins improve Bethel to 6-0 on the 2017 season, upping their non-conference match winning streak to 20 consecutive matches. The Royals start conference play next Saturday, facing off against Concordia College (Minn.) 2:30 p.m. at Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake.
