SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Bethel University women's hockey team finished up the 2017 portion of their schedule with a non-conference game at the University of Wisconsin-Superior Friday night and lost a heartbreaker in overtime by a 4-3 score. The Royals held a 2-1 lead but it would be the only advantage for Bethel as the Yellowjackets held leads of 1-0, 3-2 and the final score of 4-3.
UWS struck first at 8:26 in the first period to take the 1-0 lead. The Royals scored their first goal at 15:08 in the first as

Wendy Roberts on a Bethel power play.
Kaitlyn VanTassel gave Bethel the lead with a score early in the second period with Roberts assisting again. Bethel was looking to add to their lead on a power play midway through the second period when the Yellowjackets scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game up at 2-2. Just three minutes later they took the lead back with another score to make it 3-2. Bethel's sensational freshman defenseman, Kennedi Mitchell scored just 1:56 into the third period for Bethel to make the score 3-3.
Briita Nelson assisted Mitchell. Neither team was able to score the rest of the third period and the game headed to overtime. The Yellowjackets got the score they needed 1:56 into the overtime period to take the victory.
The loss drops Bethel to 3-7-1 on the season. UW-Superior improved to 6-4-0. The Royals will now take a month off for the semester and holiday break before returning to action on January 5th and 6th, 2018 when they travel to Mequon, Wisconsin to play Concordia University-Wisconsin.
