MOORHEAD, Minn.—Bethel University's men's basketball team improved to 7-2 on the season after winning their third consecutive game and second straight on the road. Their latest feat was a 90-78 victory at Concordia College Saturday, thanks in part to a 48-38 advantage over the Cobbers (3-5, 1-3 MIAC) in the final frame.
Â
The Royals (7-2, 3-2 MIAC) led Concordia 60-57 with 12:53 remaining in the game, but a 16-5 run over the next five minutes gave BU more than enough separation to escape Moorhead with their first regular-season road win over the Cobbers during the
Doug Novak era.
Â
Sophomore guard
Jack Jenson had a memorable performance, finishing 9-of-13 from the floor for 21 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Junior forward
Derek Magnuson composed 17 points, three boards, and two dimes, while Matt Ambriz recorded 13 points and three steals and
Bridgeport Tusler added 10 points, three rebounds, four steals, and four assists.
Â
Altogether, Bethel shot a blistering 58.9 percent from the floor and 70.4 percent from the charity stripe. The Royals tallied just eight turnovers, but forced the Cobbers into 17, which led to a 26-8 advantage in points scored off turnovers.
Â
BU will enjoy a two-week break before continuing their season with a nonconference test at UW-Superior on Saturday, December 30. The Royals then resume conference play Wednesday, January 3, when they host St. Olaf College in the Robertson Center Gym at 7 p.m.
