Gusties Stop Royals in Series Opener, 3-1

BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel University women's hockey team was defeated Friday night by the No. 7-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties by a 3-1 final score. The Gusties used two third period scores to pull away from Bethel in what was a very tight game.

The game was scoreless until midway through the second period Gustavus was able to break through and get a score at 9:03 in the second. Bethel scored their goal early in the third period to tie the game up and create some extra energy inside Bethel University Arena. Freshman Bri Stafne scored off an assist from Sarine Goos and Kaitlyn VanTassel. The game would be tied for less than two minutes however as Gustavus scored five minutes into the third to take the lead back. They would tack on an insurance goal later in the third period for the 3-1 final. Gustavus held a 30-23 advantage in shots on goal. Michelle Klimstra made 27 saves for the Royals.

The loss drops Bethel to 3-5-1 on the year and 1-3-1 in the MIAC. Gustavus is 5-1-1 and 4-1 in the MIAC. The two teams will faceoff on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Don Roberts Ice Rink on the campus of Gustavus in St. Peter, Minnesota.
