MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Bethel University men's hockey team went on the road Friday night and picked up their first win of the season with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Concordia College. The Royals scored twice in the third period to erase a 2-1 deficit and take the victory. Joe Sheppard made 42 saves, including blanking CC with 18 saves in the third period to help the Royals take the victory.
Concordia scored the lone goal of the first period with a score at the 5:20 mark. Bethel scored the next goal at 13:20 in the second period before Concordia answered just a minute-and-a-half later on a power play to regain the lead. Kurtis Redding got the equalzer for Bethel in the third period with 8:10 eclipsed. The Royals then took advantage of a power play to score the eventual game winner as Dallas Marvin put one home unassisted. Sheppard and the Royals then kept Concordia scoreless the rest of the way to get the 3-2 victory.
Concordia's power play goal was the only power play for the Cobbers in the game. Bethel was 1-3 on the power play as just four total penalties were called in the game. The win lifts Bethel's record to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC. Concordia is 2-2-2 and 0-1 in the MIAC. The two squads will finish the series Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Moorhead.
