BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel University women's hockey team saw leads of 1-0 and 2-1 disappear in a 3-2 loss to the Augsburg University Auggies. The Royals jumped out front early on with Bri Stafne scoring midway through the first period. The Auggies responded with a goal at 15:51 to tie it back up. The lone goal of the second period was scored by Bethel and Kaitlyn VanTassel on the power play. The Auggies were able to score twice in the first five minutes of the third period and keep Bethel off the board to take the come-from-behind win over the Royals.
Both teams got off 25 shots on goal in the game. The Auggies were 0-2 on the power play and Bethel was 1-4. The Royals had over a minute of 5-on-3 action later in the third period and had some great chances but just missed out in getting the puck in the net to tie the game.
The win improves Augsburg to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC. Bethel falls to 2-4 and 0-2 in the MIAC. The Royals will host Concordia College (Moorhead) next weekend with game times of 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
