Royals and Cobbers Slug their way to 3-3 Tie

BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel University women's hockey team played an entertaining and action packed contest with the Concordia College Cobbers that ended in a 3-3 tie. The Royals held a 31-30 advantage in shots as both teams had numerous great scoring chances with both goalies playing outstanding in the back and forth affair. Bethel grabbed the lead first before the Cobbers went ahead 2-1 and then Bethel claimed a 3-2 lead before CC was able to tie the game late in the third period.

With 40 seconds remaining in the first period Wendy Roberts scored a power play goal for Bethel with assists from Kennedi Mitchll and Sarah Moy to give Bethel a 1-0 lead after one. The Cobbers scored at 7:46 in the second period and again on a power play with just one second remaining in the second frame to take a 2-1 lead. Freshman Bri Stafne then lit a fire in the Royals with a short handed score on a beautiful play to tie the game up at 2-2 at 7:11 in the third period. Kaitlyn VanTassel and Mitchell assisted Stafne. After both teams took their best shots but were denied Wendy Roberts made a great play to put the Royals on top 3-2 with just under four minutes remaining in the game. Sarah Moy and Erika Geary had assists on Roberts second goal of the night. The Cobbers made sure Bethel's excitement did not last long though as less than a minute later Concordia was able to sneak one in between the pads of Bethel goalie Maggie Straka to tie the game up with just 2:55 remaining. Despite chances for both teams neither could score in the remaining time or overtime.

The tie keeps Bethel looking for their first win in MIAC play as they are now 0-2-1 and 2-4-1 overall. Concordia is 3-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the MIAC. The two teams will faceoff Saturday at 2 p.m. from Bethel University Arena.
