Trio of Royals Honored in MIAC Volleyball Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2017 end-of-season awards recently and among those honored from Bethel was Tina Hoppe, Kristin Stern, and Emily Kukacka. Tina Hoppe and Kristin Stern were both recognized on the MIAC All-Conference Team, while Emily Kukacka was BU's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
 
Tina Hoppe was one of four repeat players on the MIAC All-Conference Team. The junior outside hitter amassed 239 kills and 265 digs over the course of 95 sets and 26 matches. Hoppe, who composed 10 double-doubles this season, finished second among all players league-wide in service aces (19) against MIAC foes, sixth in total attacks (363), 11th in points (135.0), and 13th in kills (110).
 
Kristin Stern, who was the 2014 MIAC Rookie of the Year, was one of five players who earned their third All-MIAC honor. Stern manufactured 332 kills and 82.0 total blocks, while hitting .326 during 97 sets and 26 matches. The senior middle hitter finished second among conference players in kills (137) and points (156.5) against MIAC opponents, fourth in total blocks (35), seventh in hitting percentage (.274), and tenth in total attacks (339).
 
As part of a Conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the 12th-annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for volleyball. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the court. Senior Emily Kukacka was selected to represent the Royals on this prestigious list.
