BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team fell to the visiting Concordia University-Wisconsin Falcons for the second consecutive day, by a 2-1 score. The Royals, who were downed by the Falcons 3-1 on Friday night, came out strong firing several shots on goal and scoring just 2:42 into the game. But the Falcons scored once in the second period and again late in the third to complete the series sweep of the Royals.
Kaitlynn VanTassel scored the Royals goal on a power play with assists from
Abby Felton and
Natalie Simons. Unfortunately for the Royals it was the only score of the night on their 24 shots on goal. CUW fired off just 15 shots on goal in the game but found the back of the net twice. Their first score came late in the second period at 16:48 to tie the game up at 1-1. The game winner came with just 1:14 remaining in regulation for the Falcons. Bethel's attempt to get the game tying score took a big hit immediately after they pulled goalie
Maggie Straka to add an extra skater when the Royals where whistled for a cross checking penalty, giving the Falcons a power play for the remaining 57 seconds.
Bethel will return to MIAC play next weekend as the series with Concordia marks the final non-conference action of the season. The Royals will travel to Minneapolis to take on MIAC co-leader Augsburg College on Friday and then host the Auggies Saturday afternoon.
