BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team dropped a stunner to the visiting Concordia University-Wisconsin Falcons by a 3-1 score. The Falcons were able to score twice short-handed during a five minute major power play for the Royals to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the second period and never let the Royals get any closer.
The shot totals for both teams ended up at 24 apiece. Despite several near goals neither team scored during the first 34 minutes of play. The Royals appeared to gain a great advantage to strike first when they were awarded with a five minute power play but the Falcons had other ideas. CUW's leading scorer, Veronkia Metanova, twice was able to create a turnover and turn it into a score, first at 14:34 and again at 17:09 in the second period. The Falcons scored again just seven seconds into the third period. Bethel was able to respond shortly after, scoring their lone goal just 43 seconds into the third period. The two goals within the first minute of the third period was not an indication of how the rest of the contest would go however, as no more scoring took place.
Natalie Simons scored the Royals goal with
Sarina Goos and
Sarah Moy assisting.
The loss drops Bethel to 6-4-1 on the year and improves CUW to 5-5-2. The two teams will finish the series on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Bethel University Arena.
