ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's women's basketball team won their fifth straight contest Saturday thanks to a 73-45 victory over Macalester College. The Royals (15-4, 10-2 MIAC) dominated the Scots (9-10, 3-9 MIAC) on the glass by a final tally of 49-37, which led to a 12-2 separation in second-chance points and a 28-point triumph.
The Royals topped the Scots 18-14 in the opening frame and an 11-2 run to start the second provided BU plenty of breathing room going into the halftime intermission. Bethel then left no doubt in the third with a 23-11 advantage in the quarter, followed by a 16-10 score in the fourth.
BU shot an impressive 49.1 percent from the floor and an even-more impressive 50.0 percent from downtown. Those percentages led to five players scoring nine or more points, including
Taite Anderson, who had a game-high 18 points, to go along with eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Jasmin Bretoi went 4-of-6 from outside the arc for 12 points and three rebounds, while
Hannah Johnson recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals.
Shanni Moorse added 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 24 minutes played.
Angie Kirchoff went 4-of-4 for nine points, three assists, two rebounds, two steals, and zero turnovers.
Bethel will now rest until Wednesday, when they travel to Northfield, Minn., to face Carleton College. Tipoff between the Royals and Knights is scheduled for 7 p.m.
