Johnson's Late Goal Salvages 2-2 Tie for Bethel at Saint Ben's

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team got a goal with just 49 seconds remaining in regulation to salvage a 2-2 tie on the road against the College of Saint Benedict. The Royals found themselves down 2-1 despite drastically outshooting the Blazers but Emma Johnson scored a power play goal for the Royals with under a minute to go to send it into overtime. Neither team was able to score in the extra five minutes as the game ended in a tie, the third in MIAC play for Bethel (7-7-3, 4-3-3) and the first non-loss for the Blazers (3-13-1, 0-9-1).

Bethel was able to fire off 50 shots, their second highest output of the season, but were only able to find the back of the net twice, the same amount as CSB who had just 26 shots. Sarah Moy scored the Royals first goal as the two teams traded goals in the first period. Saint Ben's scored their second goal in the second period and then tried to hang on but were unable to hold the lead in the final minute of regulation. Bethel outshot Saint Ben's 3-1 in the overtime period.

The Royals will take on the Hamline University Pipers next weekend in another big MIAC series between two of the six teams in contention for the five MIAC playoff spots. The Pipers currently sit in a tie for third place while Bethel is in a tie for fifth. Friday's opener will be at Oscar Johnson Arena in St. Paul with Saturday's action in Bethel University Arena.
