ST. PETER, Minn.—Bethel University's men's basketball team improved its conference record to 7-1 and overall mark to 11-2 thanks to Wednesday's 93-82 road victory over Gustavus Adolphus. The Royals (11-2, 7-1 MIAC) shot 65.5 percent from the floor and 53.8 percent from downtown, which proved to be enough to knock off the Gusties (3-10, 3-5 MIAC) at Gus Young Court.
Â
Senior guard
Trevor Hall was nearly unstoppable throughout the entire night. Hall scored 26 points on 11-of-13 shooting, while also collecting nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Hall started 7-of-8 in the opening 20 minutes of play and finished 4-of-5 in the final frame.
Â
Going toe-to-toe with Hall was fellow backcourt team member
Bridgeport Tusler, who also scored 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting in 32 minutes played. Tusler poured in 16 second-half points and finished the game 5-of-6 from outside the arc, while also recording three steals.
Â
Bethel led 45-44 at the midway mark and 73-70 with 8:58 remaining in the game, but a 13-3 run over the next 4:57 gave BU more than enough breathing room down the stretch.
Â
The Royals outrebounded Gustavus 33-27 and also forced GAC into 14 turnovers, which led to a 19-2 advantage in fast break points. BU also outscored the Gusties inside 63-40.
Â
In addition to Hall and Tusler, Wojta and
Granger Kingland also scored in double figures with 13 and 10, respectively. Wojta swiped two steals and Kingland hauled down a pair of rebounds.
Â
Also posting noteworthy performances Wednesday evening was
Derek Magnuson and
Tim Hanson, who each battled foul trouble all night. Magnuson scored eight points and ripped down four boards, while Hanson finished with seven points, nine boards, and two assists.
Â
Bethel will enjoy a bye Saturday before continuing its road stretch Monday in Collegeville, where the Royals take on the Johnnies of Saint John's at 7 p.m.
