ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University women's tennis team defeated Hamline University 8-1 on Saturday as they improved to 5-3 in conference play and remain fifth in the MIAC standings with just two matches remaining.

"It was important to keep the momentum rolling with a win today, we just need to take care of business this week and keep working hard to ensure a spot in the playoffs," said head coach Drew Fernelius.

The Royals started the day with wins in both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to eventually take a 2-1 lead heading into singles.  The No. 1 team of Sydney Parkinson and Jill Weinzettel won 8-3 while Mattie Kidder and Anna Browning cruised to an 8-2 victory as the Royals got their first points of the match.

Bethel continued their dominance in singles as they captured all six points with straight-set victories.  Parkinson opened the latter portion of the match with a 6-3, 6-3 before her teammates followed with convincing performances of their own.  Weinzettel grinded out a long first set before finishing off a 7-6, 6-3 defeat to send the Royals to their 18th victory of the season.

Bethel will now look ahead to their last home match of the season as they take on the College of Saint Benedict on Tuesday.  The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
